Reece Smith
Hi! I'm Reece Smith. I'm a Scottish musician and composer who's been making music since 2018, using various instruments including piano and strings, to orchestras and synthesizers.
I started learning piano at age 5, progressing with multiple teachers and schools over the next decade to improve my skills as a pianist.
Around the age of 12, I started to experiment with composition, and created my own pieces of music. Starting off small at first, I eventually composed my first piece (which has since been lost), which helped me to develop a better ability to compose.
In November of 2018, at 14 years old, I composed a piece with a placeholder name: "November". The name stuck, and I decided to compose 4 more pieces, named after the month they were composed in. This is what birthed Through The Months, which I decided to release on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music.
Since then, my journey as a composer and musician has grown to include a re-recording of this music, along with an EP and 2 albums.
Birth
My new album Birth is my most recent attempt to expand my musical profile. By using more than just a piano, I spent over 7 months during the summer of 2023 to create an album over an hour and a half long. Included are orchestral instruments, choir, experimental audio effects and synthesizers, which all come together to create an album that I couldn't be more proud to create and share.
Birth covers all bases - it includes purely synthesized music; solo and group piano, violin and cello; orchestral music; and atmospheric ambient music. Each piece was built from the bottom up, starting with one instrument, one melody and one rhythm, and building upon it all to create these large, impressive compositions.
What am I getting up to?
I'm taking a small break from music to focus on aspects of my personal life, although I am still making music when I can. I currently have the majority of an album ready to release, but I've decided to leave it for now and return with fresh eyes once I have more time. Stay tuned and listen for any new annoucements!
Future Plans
I plan on creating more albums in future, and I am already working on the initial details for my next release before I write it.
I also hope to expand my fanbase by trying to find more people who like what I do, and sharing my music to everyone who may be interested.
